More employers brought in temporary staff in the third quarter of this year than last year, and more plan to hire contingents in the fourth quarter, according to a survey by CareerBuilder.

The survey found that 38 percent of employers hired temporary or contract workers in the third quarter, up from 32 percent in the third quarter of last year. For the fourth quarter, 33 percent of employers plan to hire contingents, up from 27 percent in the same period last yar.

Overall, 26 percent of employers plan to add full-time, permanent headcount in the fourth quarter, up from 21 percent from 2011.

The survey included 2,494 U.S. hiring managers and human resource professionals.
