US – California, Rhode Island post highest jobless rates

California and Rhode Island posted the highest unemployment rates among the states in January at 9.8 percent each, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Nevada, which has joined Rhode Island atop the unemployment rankings for months, registered the largest jobless rate decrease, 2.3 percentage points to 9.7 percent.

North Dakota again registered the lowest jobless rate, 3.3 percent in January.
