UPS will hire more than 55,600 seasonal employees across the United States and Canada to work as driver helpers, walkers, package sorters, loaders or unloaders. Additionally, FedEx reported last week that it expects to hire 20,000 seasonal personnel this year.

UPS anticipates delivering a record 527 million packages this holiday season, surpassing last year's record of 480 million. UPS predicts its busiest day of the year will be Dec. 20, when an estimated 28 million packages will be delivered worldwide.

FedEx said it expects to have its busiest day in history on Dec. 10 when it moves 19 million shipments.
