UK – Thousands of temporary Christmas jobs now available

18 September 2014

There are still 14 weeks until Christmas and, to much chagrin, supermarkets are starting to stack their shelves with the usual tinsel, festive chocolate, and mince pies. At least nobody seems to have started playing Christmas music yet.

It’s not all bad news, though, as companies have also started advertising for seasonal staff.

One of the busiest times of the year for the recruitment industry is set to start with a bang following high-street retailer Argos announcing that it will hire 10,000 seasonal workers to work across all of its 737 shops and at more than 30 of their new digital outlets.

High-end food and gift store Fortnum & Mason are planning to take on 350 seasonal workers to cope with the Christmas rush.

Liz Flynn, Head of Human Resources at Fortnum & Mason, added: “There’s a lot of festive fun to be had and those temporary staff that really excel will be considered for permanent roles within the business in the New Year.”
