U.S. workers median earnings up 4.2%

Full-time workers in the United States had weekly median earnings of $719 in the second quarter of 2008, up 4.2% year-over-year, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. However, the consumer price index for all urban consumers rose 4.4% in the same period.

Full-time workers over 25 years old without high school diplomas had weekly median earnings of $449, compared with $620 for high school graduates. Those with at least a bachelor's degree reported a median wage of $1,105 a week.

Women who usually worked full-time had median weekly earnings of $634 per week, or 79.3% of the $800 for men.
