U.S. leading index down 0.5%

The Conference Board's U.S. leading index of economic indicators slipped 0.5% in August, and now stands at 100.8.

The decline is the third in the last four months, and the index is 2.7% below its level a year ago. The Conference Board said weaknesses among the leading indicators remained widespread over the last six months.
