October 31, 2007

U.S. nonfarm private employment rose by 106,000 in October from September, according to the National Employment Report from Automatic Data Processing Inc. (NYSE: ADP) released today. The reading marks an acceleration of nonfarm private employment after the previous three months when the average monthly change was 43,000.

The service sector added 134,000 jobs, but employment in the goods-producing sector fell by 28,000, according to the report. It was the 11th monthly decline for the goods-producing sector.

The report is based on data from ADP derived from an anonymous subset of roughly 500,000 U.S. business clients.
