Information technology employment rose by more than 7,000 jobs in October to 4,064,500, according to the TechServe Alliance’s monthly index of IT jobs. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment has grown by more than 87,000 jobs since October 2010, or 2.2 percent. 

“According to both data and the anecdotal reports of my member companies, demand for IT professionals in key skill sets remains strong,” said TechServe CEO Mark Roberts. “While there is still considerable weakness in the overall job market with 9 percent unemployment, there is actually a shortage of qualified professionals in high-demand IT skill sets. We remain bullish on the prospect for continued growth in IT employment as we enter 2012.”
