Twitter Use Rises, Staffing Firms Follow

July 09, 2012

Twitter usage is growing. The Pew Research Center recently reported that 8 percent of people on the Internet used Twitter on a daily basis in February 2012, quadruple the 2 percent in November 2010.

Staffing firms, of course, are also using Twitter.

One example is Atrium Staffing. The New York-based staffing firm has been on Twitter since 2009 and now has more than 8,700 followers.

Allie Basilica, social media specialist at Atrium, said 80 percent of the firm’s Twitter efforts are directed at recruiting while 20 percent are directed at clients.

“Being active in the Twitter space is attractive to clients,” Basilica said. It shows that the staffing firm is utilizing all avenues to attract candidates. In addition, many of the firm’s clients are using Twitter themselves.

Atrium also uses other social networks and is now looking at Pinterest. Basilica said 3 percent of the company’s total applications came from social networks in 2011.
