TriNet: Atlanta leads tech job growth, Boulder-Denver gaining ground

September proved to be a good month for jobs in the tech sector, with job growth at 1.38 percent, a slight decrease from August’s growth 1.52 percent, according to TriNet’s SMBeat report.

Tech hubs outside of Silicon Valley — including New York, Los Angeles, Denver-Boulder and Atlanta — saw good job creation in September, outpacing Silicon Valley's growth of 0.45 percent. Atlanta leads job growth with net jobs at 3.31 percent, followed by Denver-Boulder at 1.69 percent, Los Angeles at 1.55 percent and New York metro at 1.10 percent.

Tech workers continue to flock to the Denver-Boulder area, where hiring has continued to grow every month by an average of 1.27 percent since January 2013. Here, tech workers command an average salary of $100,000, about $19,000 less than Silicon Valley, which boasts the highest average salary. Atlanta, New York metro and Los Angeles are nearly equal in average annual salary with Atlanta at $97,200, New York Metro at $97,900 and Los Angeles at approximately $98,600.

The professional employer organization reported employment levels among its client firms rose by 0.79 percent in September, slower than August’s rate of 1.37 percent. New hires were at 3.24 percent and terminations at 2.45 percent.
