Temporary worker additions, reductions

A power plant is hiring 2,000 temporary workers. Meanwhile, Corning Inc. said today it was cutting 1,400 temporary workers while a news report said Honda Manufacturing of Alabama LLC is also reducing the number of temporary workers.

The (San Luis Obispo CA) Tribune newspaper reported that PG&E Corp. will bring in 2,000 temporary workers for maintenance work at its Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant in California.

Corning said today it was cutting 1,400 temporary workers along with about 3,500 of other workers. The Corning NY-based glass and ceramics manufacturer said fourth-quarter sales were $1.1 billion, down about 30% year-over-year.

The (Talladega AL) Daily Home newspaper reported that Honda Manufacturing of Alabama is cutting an undisclosed number of temporary workers.
