Tech pros still satisfied

October 04, 2007

Most technology professionals are still satisfied with their field, according to the Dice tech appeal index released Wednesday by Dice Holdings Inc. (NYSE: DHX). In the survey, 91% of information technology professionals are somewhat or very satisfied in their current jobs; and 92% said they intend to stay in the IT field for at least the next six months.

Eighty-six percent of IT professionals are still likely to recommend the field to others, similar to the results of the October 2006 tech appeal index. But more increased their likelihood to recommend careers in financial services (56% versus 47%) and media/entertainment (44% versus 34%), according to the index's survey.

"Although the satisfaction and loyalty levels of IT professionals continue to be strong, we're seeing evidence of possible retention issues over the long term," said Dice Chairman, President, and CEO Scott Melland. "It's possible that technology professionals' willingness to recommend or move into a new industry comes as a result of their perceptions of growth and higher pay."

The survey questioned more than 1,000 adults, including 565 adults employed in IT positions.
