Switzerland – Temporary staffing continues volatile trend

The Swiss temporary staffing market continues its volatile trend during September 2014, according to the latest figures from Swiss Staffing, the Swiss Federation of Staffing Companies. Compared with September 2013, the number of temporary jobs decreased by -8.7%, following year-on-year growth of +6.8% in August 2014.

Since the start of the year, the volume of temporary work has increased by +0.4% compared with the same nine-month period last year. Over the past 12 months, however, temporary worker is down by -0.3% against the preceding 12-month period.

The temporary staffing market in Switzerland has been volatile since the start of the year. In July, there was a -5.6% decline in temporary work, with decreases of -4.9% reported in May and -0.7% in February. This was offset by very strong growth of +15.6% in March, compared with the same month last year.

Despite the strong fluctuation in the staffing industry, the overall economic outlook in Switzerland remains positive. According to the KOF Swiss Economic Institute, despite geopolitical turmoil and a weakening European Union, the Swiss economy remains robust.
