Switzerland – Substantial growth in March lifts temporary staffing industry

17 April 2014

The recovery of the Swiss staffing market was confirmed in March when the volume of temporary work rose by +15.6%, compared with the same month last year, according to the latest figures from Swiss Staffing, the Swiss Federation of Staffing Companies.

The rise in March buoyed the growth of the past 12 months to +1.3%, and the growth in temporary work since the start of 2014 to +6.5%. Together with the general mood brightening in March, the recent results reflect something of a revival in the temporary staffing industry.

According to Swiss Staffing representative Myra Fischer-Rosinger: “The Business Cycle Research (KOF), ETH Zurich and State Secretariat for the Economy are all forecasting that the Swiss economy will experience robust growth by the end of next year. This growth will mainly be due to the export industry, which will benefit from a resurgent world economy.”

“Various forecasters at the same time are warning of the potential slowdown effect caused by the recently accepted immigration law reforms on how companies are investing and the labour market. The KOF found that companies have already reduced their demand expectations since the adoption of the immigration reforms. This is especially true for companies in the construction sector that have not benefitted from a construction boom as a result of migration,” she added.
