Surveys Focus on Veterans Employment

November 11, 2011

One-fifth of employers are actively recruiting veterans, and a majority of employers feel veterans perform their job functions “much better” than non-veterans, according to two separate surveys released this week.

A survey by CareerBuilder found that 20 percent of employers plan to actively recruit U.S. veterans over the next 12 months. Fourteen percent are actively recruiting members of the National Guard. The survey included more than 2,800 hiring managers.

A separate survey by Monster.com found that 69 percent of firms found that veterans perform their job functions “much better” than non-veterans. However, 77 percent of employers reported that veterans could do a better job of translating their military skills into corporate job skills. Monster’s survey included 500 employers and was part of its new veterans employer hiring index.
