Survey sees demand for multilingual attorneys

July 31, 2009

Demand for attorneys who speak more than one language is growing, according to more than a third of respondents to a poll released this week by Robert Half Legal, the legal staffing division of Robert Half International Inc. (NYSE: RHI).

The survey's respondents included 300 lawyers from large law firms and corporations in the U.S.

According to the survey, 36% of respondents said there was a slight increase or significant increase in the need for attorneys with foreign language skills. Another 58% said there was no change in demand.

The foreign language most in demand was Spanish, which 47% said was the most needed. Chinese ranked next with 24% saying it was the most in demand.
