Survey finds expectations, salary top of candidates’ minds

September 25, 2015

A large majority, 84%, of professionals typically pose questions of their own when meeting with hiring managers, according to a survey released today by Accountemps. Only 13% of the professionals polled reported they do not typically ask the hiring manager any questions of their own.

The most common questions professionals asked fell into the following categories. Their top responses included:

  • Professional expectations/responsibilities: 21%
  • Salary: 15%
  • Corporate culture: 12%
  • Benefits: 9%
  • Chances for advancement 6%

The survey also found some questionable queries among respondents. Example include:

  • “How late do you consider too late for showing up to work?”
  • “When can I retire?”
  • "Can I take a three-week vacation?"
  • “When can I get a raise?”

Accountemps developed the survey, which was conducted by an independent research firm. It included more than 400 US workers employed in office environments.
