Survey finds 74% to hire summer workers

April 02, 2014

The summer hiring outlook is heating up, according to the 2014 Summer Hiring Survey by Snagajob, a job portal for hourly workers. Seventy-four percent of hiring managers plan to hire summer staff this year; of those, only 14 percent anticipate hiring a fewer number of employees than last summer.

Of employers who plan to hire summer workers, 74 percent expect to have those positions filled by the end of May, and 7 percent have already filled summer positions.

The average reported wage for summer workers in 2014 is $10.39. Employers in the hospitality industry will pay highest average wage for summer employees: $10.89; food-service: $10.43; and retail: $10.07.

The survey included 250 employers responsible for hiring hourly employees in the retail, hospitality and food service industries.
