More than 7% of hiring managers plan to use a staffing firm to fill a temporary position in the fourth quarter, up from 6% in the third quarter, according to a survey by CareerBuilder.com. In addition, slightly more than 10% of hiring managers plan to use a staffing firm to search for permanent employees, up from 9% in the third quarter.

Hiring managers in the office/clerical segment project their use of temporary workers from staffing firms to increase the most -- 2.1% of hiring managers in this segment expect to use temporary workers from staffing firms in the fourth quarter, up from 1.3% in the third quarter.

Of job seekers, 21% said they plan to use a staffing firm as part of their job search in the fourth quarter -- the same as in the third quarter. More than half of those not currently using a staffing firm would do so if they still didn't have a job in the next three months.

CareerBuilder.com's survey included more than 5,200 hiring managers and more than 9,000 workers.
