A physician generates an average of $1.5 million a year in net revenue on behalf of his or her affiliated hospital, according to a survey of hospital CFOs by Merritt Hawkins, a physician search firm and division of AMN Healthcare Services Inc. (NYSE: AHS).

Neurosurgeons topped the list of specialists examined in the survey. A full-time neurosurgeon generates an average of $2.8 million a year on behalf of his or her hospital, according to the survey.

Data for the survey was submitted by 114 facilities.
