Physician turnover fell 6.1% in 2008 from 6.7% in 2007, according to a survey of American Medical Group Association members produced by the association and Cejka Search, the physician search division of healthcare staffing firm Cross Country Healthcare Inc. (NASD: CCRN).

The top reasons for turnover were "poor cultural fit with the practice" (50%) and "relocation closer to family" (32%).

The survey also found that 62% of medical groups believe doctors are delaying retirement because of the economy.
