Survey: Healthcare Reform Understanding in Question

June 18, 2012

A number human resource and benefits decision makers at U.S. firms don’t appear very confident their organizations understand new employer responsibilities under the federal healthcare reform law, according to a survey by Automatic Data Processing Inc. (NASD: ADP), a provider of professional employer organization and other services.

Only 40 percent of HR and benefits decision makers from large organizations (1,000-plus employees) are very confident about their understanding of employer requirements under the law. Only 20 percent of those at small companies (1-49 employees) and 17 percent of mid-sized companies (50-999 employees) expressed that same level of confidence.

“The ADP Research Institute’s recent survey clearly shows that confusion and lack of preparedness surrounding [healthcare reform] provisions is a widespread issue for U.S. companies of every size, although small and midsized companies seem particularly challenged,” said Jan Siegmund, chief strategy officer at ADP.

The ADP Research Institute conducted this online survey of 827 human resource and benefits decision makers at small, midsized and large U.S. enterprises in May 2012.
