A survey by CareerBuilder found that 66 percent of U.S. companies were impacted by a bad hire last year. And 27 percent of U.S. firms reported that a single bad hire cost more than $50,000.

Employers in other countries also reported bad hires. The largest percentage of employers reporting bad hires was in Russia, where 88 percent reported bad hires. It was followed by Brazil and China at 87 percent each. However, Germany had the most expensive bad hires with 29 percent of employers who reported a bad hire saying it cost them about $65,000 or more.

The survey was conducted online among 6,000 employers in the U.S., Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Russia and the U.K. by Harris Interactive on behalf of CareerBuilder. The survey was conducted in the month of November.
