Study: State Fills Gap with Travel Nurses

Legislation in California setting nurse-to-patient staffing ratios resulted in more registered nurses in the hospital staffing mix, according to a report by the University of Pennsylvania. Although California faced a gap in the number of nurses needed, the state made up for it by hiring travel nurses instead of using less educated licensed practical nurses.

Other states, including Massachusetts, are considering similar legislation.
