Staffing sales trumps recruitment in pay, survey says

Sales roles trump recruiting roles when it comes to average salary, according to a new report released by staffing software provider Bullhorn. The average compensation for “salesperson/account manager” was $92,000 in 2013, according the report. That compares to an average salary of $74,000 for recruiters.

As expected, CEO/owners had the highest average compensation at $154,000 in 2013, according to the Bullhorn study. Social media/marketing managers were at the bottom as far as average compensation at $73,000.

By type of firm, retained executive search executives earned much higher compensation that temporary staffing executives. The “CEO/owner/partner” at a retained executive search firm had average compensation of $230,000 in 2013. That compares to average compensation of $159,000 for a “CEO/owner/partner” at a temporary staffing firm.

The Bullhorn report surveyed 1,337 recruiting agency professionals.

It also found that 84 percent of staffing professionals expect compensation to increase in 2014, up from 81 percent in 2013.

Staffing workers at large firms, with more than 75 recruiters and salespeople, were the most optimistic with 92 percent expecting an increase in salary in 2014. At the smaller staffing firms, those with one to 10 recruiters and salespeople, 81 percent of internal workers expected an increase in compensation for 2014.
