Staffing index slips one point

July 01, 2008

The American Staffing Association's index measuring temporary employment fell one point in June to 99 from its reading of 100 in May. The index has remained relatively flat since January. However, the June reading was down three points from its level of 102 in the same period last year.

The index measures changes in the number of temporary and contract employees both weekly and monthly. The monthly change is calculated using data from the week that included the 12th day of the month. Its baseline value of 100 was set in June 2006.
