Staffing firm to pay $75,000 in EEOC suit

March 17, 2010
Olsten Staffing Services Corp. will pay $75,000 to settle a disability discrimination suit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the agency announced Thursday.

Olsten refused to refer a deaf job applicant for a temporary position at Main Street Ingredients, a La Crosse WI food products manufacturer, according to the EEOC. E-mails obtained by the EEOC indicated the applicant's disability was flagged as a concern, according to the agency.

The applicant was told at one point that he did not get the job because of concerns by Main Street, although the staffing buyer had not expressed such concerns, according to the EEOC.
