Staffing firms in the Dallas Federal Reserve District reported demand held steady at high levels, according to the new Federal Reserve Beige Book released Wednesday. However, news was mixed for temporary help services in other areas.

In the Boston district, staffing firms reported mixed activity with year-over-year revenue changes ranging from flat to up by more than 25 percent. Still, firms reported demand for permanent and temp-to-perm hiring continued to grow.

However, staffing firms in the Philadelphia district reported that demand is slowing and expect little to no improvement by year’s end.

The Richmond, Va. district reported “average-to-somewhat-stronger demand for temporary workers in recent weeks, particularly in the information technology and manufacturing sectors.”

The Chicago district reported that growth in billable hours moderated for staffing services, although one staffing firm reported that permanent placements were increasing and offsetting some of the decline in demand for temporary workers.

In the St. Louis district, contacts in temporary help services announced plans to decrease operations.
