Former staffing agency owner Valentin Gutierrez was sentenced Tuesday to 30 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to harboring and shielding illegal aliens for financial gain as part of a scheme to sell illegal labor to companies in three states, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Arkansas reported. Gutierrez was also ordered to pay $10,000 in fines and serve two years of supervised release after he gets out of prison.
Authorities in Arkansas received information on Nov. 12, 2008, that Gutierrez was employing illegal aliens and distributing counterfeit immigration documents and Social Security cards, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. An examination of Gutierrez’s financial records found bank deposits in excess of $6.4 million dollars between May 1, 2008, and Dec. 31, 2008, from the sale of illegal alien labor to various companies in Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama.
Gutierrez had entered a guilty plea in May 2012.
