Spherion's worker confidence index falls

November 05, 2007

Spherion Corp.'s (NYSE: SFN) employee confidence index fell 0.3 points to 56.4 in October, it's lowest reading of the year. In October 17% of workers believed the economy was getting stronger, compared with 18% in September. The percent of workers who feel confident in the future of their current employer increased one percentage point to 65%. And the number of workers who believe it is unlikely they will lose their job fell two percentage points to 77%.

"While the job and economic growth has looked quite solid over the past few months, our index show that many workers are still concerned about the overall health of the job market and economy," said President and CEO Roy Krause. "Last month's decrease in overall confidence was minimal, however, and expected during periods of economic uncertainty. Our data still show majorities of workers remain confident in their own job security, their employers' future prospects and their ability to find a new job."
