Spherion index: More workers to switch jobs

Spherion Corps.' (NYSE: SFN) employee confidence index rose 0.7 points to 49.1 in November from the previous month with a jump in the number of workers saying they are likely to search for a new job in the next year.

Thirty-seven percent of workers in November said they would likely seek a new job in the next 12 months, up from 32% in October, according to the index's survey. The jump of five percentage points is the largest increase in almost two years.

In addition, the number of workers confident in their ability to find a new job rose by one percentage point to 39% in November. And the number of workers saying there were fewer jobs available declined two percentage points in November to 68%.

Twenty-three percent of workers said they believe the economy is getting stronger -- unchanged from October.

The index's survey questioned 2,766 employed adults in the U.S.
