South Dakota posts lowest jobless rate

South Dakota again posted the lowest jobless rate among states in June, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. South Dakota's unemployment rate edged down to 2.8% in June from 2.9% in April. States with the second-highest jobless rates were North Dakota, Utah and Wyoming at 3.2% each. Wyoming had tied with South Dakota for the lowest unemployment rate among states in April and May.

Michigan again registered the highest jobless rate among states at 8.5% in June, a rate unchanged from May. Rhode Island posted the second-highest unemployment rate at 7.5%.

Year-over-year, 45 states and the District of Columbia reported higher jobless rates in June. Four states reported lower rates, and one was unchanged.
