Solar jobs to rise almost 16% over year

The number of U.S. solar energy-related jobs rose by 19.9 percent between September 2012 and November 2013 to a total of 142,698 jobs, according to the annual National Solar Jobs Census released by the Solar Foundation. The number of solar energy-related jobs is expected to grow by almost 16 percent over the next 12 months, according to a report by the Solar Foundation, a nonprofit solar research and education organization.

Solar jobs had already risen by 19.9 percent between September 2012 and November 2013, according to the report.

The average solar installer earned between $20 and $23.63 per hour. Production and assembly workers earn slightly less, averaging $15 to $18.23 per hour.

The report was derived from data collected from more than 2,081 solar firms.
