Software development ranked as the most in-demand technology skill based on online job ads, according to Wanted Analytics, a firm that tracks online job ads. There were 232,000 technology jobs advertised online in the United States that required software development skills, up 3 percent in the past 90 days compared to the same 90-day period in 2012 and more than 120 percent from four years ago.

Seattle had the most jobs requiring software development in the past 90 days, followed by Washington D.C., New York, San Francisco, and San Jose, Calif. Seattle also posted the largest growth in the past 90 days, with more than 21,000 jobs for tech professionals with software development skills, a 15 percent year-over-year increase.
