View All NewsSingapore – Robots to replace waiters as early as next year
With a talent crunch biting, customers at Singaporean restaurants can expect to be served by autonomous flying robots instead of waiters by as early as the end of 2015, reports channelnewsasia.com.
The flying robots, known as Infinium-Serve, will be launched at five restaurant outlets in Singapore, run by restaurant and entertainment company Timbre Group.
Woon Junyang, CEO of Infinium Robots, which manufactures the robots, is confident that the robotic solution will help alleviate Singapore’s labour crunch. He explained that introducing this technology into restaurants would take away mundane tasks of serving food and drinks, and allow human waiters to focus on higher-value tasks such as getting feedback from customers.
“This will result in an enhanced dining experience which will eventually lead to increased sales and revenue for the restaurants,” he added.
Research conducted by Staffing Industry Analysts earlier this year indicated that 63% of all temporary agency jobs will be at high risk of computerisation over the next 10 to 20 years. As a result, staffing firms are increasingly likely to offer automated work solutions, as well as human work solutions, which will most likely impact the role and remit of temporary workers.
