Santa Clara, Calif., posted the highest average weekly wage among all large U.S. county areas in the third quarter of 2013, but its neighbor, San Mateo County, posted the largest year-over-year increase, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Santa Clara County, home of Silicon Valley, posted an average weekly wage of $1,868, up 4.0 percent from the third quarter of 2012.

However, San Mateo County's average weekly wage rose 9.9 percent year over year to $1,698. The BLS reported that within San Mateo County, the information segment posted an average weekly wage of $2,359, a year-over-year increase of 82.1 percent. San Mateo County is located immediately south of San Francisco and also includes part of Silicon Valley.

The 10 large U.S. counties with the highest average weekly wages in the third quarter include:

The 10 large U.S. counties with the highest year-over-year increases in average weekly wage in the third quarter include:

3. Collier, Fla., +8.0 percent
4. Whatcom, Wash., +6.9 percent
5. Utah, Utah, +6.4 percent
6. Washington, Ark., +6.0 percent
7. Yolo, Calif., +6.0 percent
8. Hamilton, Ind., +5.7 percent
9. Clay, Mo., +5.1 percent
10. San Francisco, Calif., +4.8 percent
