Signing bonuses rise for doctors

November 02, 2007

Signing bonuses for doctors are larger in more than 80% of surgical specialties, compared with the last quarter, according to the third quarter edition of The Physician Recruiting Standard by The Delta Companies. In addition, salaries are up 5% for internal medicine doctors over the last three months; these physicians had total annual compensation of $215,683.

In addition, the report found there is increasing demand for locum tenens coverage because of permanent vacancies. "The average permanent vacancy is now longer than 60 days, causing the average length of requested coverage overall to increase more than 30% over the past 12 months," said Sherri Carlton, executive VP of Delta Locum Tenens.
