August 01, 2013

Service-sector hiring will rise on a year-over-year basis in the U.S. for the 13th consecutive month in August and hiring will rise moderately in the manufacturing sector, according to the Society for Human Resource Management’s leading indicators of national employment report.

The survey found 41.2 percent of service-sector employers plan to increase staff and 6.1 percent plan to decrease staff for a net increase of 35.1 percent. That compared to a net increase of 28.6 percent in August 2012.

Among manufacturing employers, 56.2 percent plan to add staff in August and 6.3 percent plan to cut for a net increase of 49.9 percent.

SHRM’s report is based on a survey of human resource executives at more than 500 manufacturing and 500 service-sector firms.
