The Senate healthcare reform bill introduced Wednesday by Sen. Harry Reid, D-NV, would require employers not providing healthcare insurance to pay $750 annually for each worker who qualifies for a healthcare subsidy, Reuters reported. The $750 would be required from companies with more than 50 employees.

Introduction of the Senate's bill, "the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act," follows the approval of a separate healthcare reform bill by the U.S. House of Representatives on Nov. 7. The House bill would require that employers not providing health insurance pay 8% of their annual payroll into an insurance exchange. The 8% tax had been criticized by employer groups.

If the Senate does pass a bill, it would still need to be reconciled with the House bill.
