Schwab to hire 500 in Colorado

Charles Schawb & Co. Inc. plans to add more than 500 jobs as it expands its operations in Colorado's Douglas County, Governor Bill Ritter announced Thursday. Schwab will phase in the jobs over the next three years starting in mid-2009.

TheDenverChannel.com said the jobs will be posted at job fairs, online and with local job recruiters. The positions will primarily be technology jobs with an average salary of $75,000, according to the governor's office.

Schwab already has 1,300 employees in Colorado.

Signal International will add 200 to 300 new jobs in Orange TX, the Beaumontenterprise.com reported. Signal, a marine and fabrication company, received a $50 million contract to upgrade drillships for the Noble Corp.

TTM Technologies Inc. said it will close a circuit board plant in Redmond WA. The closure will result in layoffs of 55 temporary employees as well as 374 full-time workers.

In Japan, The Associated Press reported that Honda Motor Co. plans to reduce the number of contract workers it uses to zero, which means cuts of 3,100 jobs. Toyota Motor Corp. is cutting its temporary workforce by 3,000, the AP reported. And Nissan Motor Co. plans to cut all of its temporary workers by March — it had 2,000 temporary workers last year.
