SHRM: May hiring to rise

Hiring in both the manufacturing and service sectors will increase in May compared to the same month last year, according to the leading indicators of national employment report released today by the Society for Human Resource Management.

The report’s survey found that 46.5 percent of service-sector companies plan to hire in May while 9.4 percent plan to reduce their workforces for a net increase of 37.1 percent. That compares to a net increase of 30.4 percent in May 2012.

In the manufacturing sector, 52.3 percent of firms plan to hire in May while 9.4 percent plan to reduce their workforces for a net increase of 42.9 percent. That compares to a net increase of 40.5 percent in May 2012.
