Resources Connection revenue falls 0.4%, energy sector impacts US results

Revenue at Resources Connection Inc. (NASD: RECN) edged down 0.4% in its fiscal second quarter ended Nov. 28. However, revenue rose 1.7% in constant currency.

US revenue rose 0.2% year over year to $122.5 million. The flat growth was in part due to continued softness in the energy sector, CFO Nate Franke reported in a conference call with investors. Revenue in the energy vertical decreased approximately $3.2 million.

International revenue fell 3.4% to $28.3 million, but rose 7.5% in constant currency. Asia Pacific revenue rose 17.7% in constant currency, and European revenue rose 3.0% in constant currency.

Net income rose 8.2% to $8.7 million. Net income in the second quarter of fiscal 2016 includes a one cent per share charge for a European legal case and a one cent per share positive impact related to the reversal of approximately $290,000 of tax valuation allowances. Net income in the second quarter of fiscal 2015 included a one cent per share charge for severance and related charges related to the company’s European operations.

The Irvine Calif.-based company ranks as the fifth-largest US provider of finance/accounting staffing. Its operating subsidiary is Resources Global Professionals.
