Resources Connection founder to make transition

July 17, 2015

Resources Connection Inc. (NASD: RECN) announced Donald Murray will retire from his position as executive chairman at the end of August to become nonemployee chairman of the board.

The transition is consistent with the company’s succession strategy as Murray served as executive chairman during the first two years of Tony Cherbak’s tenure as CEO, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Resources Global Professionals is the operating subsidiary of Resources Connection. Murray has served as the executive chairman since June 2013, when he transitioned from his role as the CEO. He has continuously served as chairman since the company’s formation in 1999.

Murray founded Resources Global Professionals in 1996 as a venture-backed operating entity within a Big Four accounting firm. He led a management buyout of it in 1999 with private equity firm Evercore Partners and served as the company’s CEO for more than 17 years.

“I have enjoyed leading and serving RGP for almost 20 years,” said Murray. “I am grateful to our board of directors, our management team, and all of our employees who have contributed to the success of our organization. This planned retirement is consistent with our company’s succession strategy, as I have worked with Tony Cherbak, RGP’s CEO, over the past two years to complete the executive transition. I am excited about the future of RGP as I believe that Tony will lead the organization successfully into the next stage of growth and development.”

Resources Connection Inc. (NASD: RECN) reported Thursday that revenue fell 5.1% year over year to $148.8 million in its fiscal fourth quarter ended May 30.
