BRIEFING - Staffing stocks rise by 4.7% in April
The Staffing Industry Stock Index (SISI) rose 4.7% in April after having ended March roughly flat. The index, which tracks 21 staffing companies, rose by 48.9 points to close at 1092.54 on April 30. The rise in the SISI was comparable to the broader market increase of 4.8% in the S&P 500. For more, click here.

BRIEFING - Analysis of Spherion 1Q08 earnings release
Spherion Corp. (NYSE:SFN) reported first quarter 2008 revenue of $576 million, up 24.8% from the $462 million generated in 1Q07. Acquisitions and business reclassifications accounted for virtually all of the increase, adding 24.6 percentage points to the base organic growth rate of just 0.2%. The company suffered a 50.8% decrease in net earnings of $1.3 million, down from $2.6 million. For more, click here.

First-quarter revenue at professional staffing firm Kforce Inc. (NASD: KFRC) rose 4.8% to $264.5 million, from $252.3 million in the first quarter of 2007. For more, click here.

BRIEFING - Analysis of 1Q08 Randstad earnings release
Randstad reported first quarter 2008 revenue of euro2.24 billion, up 6.3% from the euro2.10 billion in revenue the company generated in 1Q07. Currencies subtracted 2% and net acquisitions added 3%, resulting in a 5% organic growth rate. The company generated a 5% increase in net income of euro73.3 million, up from euro71.5.
