Employment in information technology rose by approximately 100,000 jobs, or 2.6 percent in December 2010 compared to December 2009, according to an index of IT jobs developed by the TechServe Alliance.

IT employment stood at more than 3.9 million in December, the TechServe Alliance reported.

"While still well short of regaining all of the positions that were lost during the downturn, the gain of 100,000 IT jobs in 2010 is most welcome news," said TechServe Alliance CEO Mark Roberts. Based on "government data, our own survey results and anecdotal reports of my member companies, 2011 promises to be a strong year for IT employment," Roberts said.

The TechServe Alliance is an organization of IT services firms, clients, consultants and suppliers.
