Hiring expectations for October are down in both the manufacturing and service sectors compared with a year ago, according to the leading indicators of national employment report from the Society for Human Resource Management.
The report's survey found that 40.4% of manufacturers plan to add staff in October while 20.0% intend to decrease staff for a net increase of 20.4%. That's down dramatically from the projected net increase of 38.2% at this time last year.
In the service sector, employers projected a new employment increase of 19.8% in October, down from 40.1% a year ago.
