Randstad acquires portion of USG’s European operations

April 04, 2013

Randstad Holding NV is acquiring a portion of the staffing operations of USG People, one of the largest staffing firms in Europe, for €20 million (US$25.6 million). The deal is expected to close in June.

The USG operations being acquired are in Spain, Italy, Poland, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Austria. They provide mainly general staffing and include more than 800 corporate employees and 189 outlets. Revenue generated by the operations was €434 million (US$556.5 million), according to Randstad.

“This transaction offers Randstad an opportunity to increase the density of our network which is important for reaching our strategic targets,” said Ben Noteboom, CEO of Randstad. “Randstad will become the number one player in Spain, Poland and Luxembourg, while we increase our market position in Italy and Switzerland. The transaction also enables us to access the Austrian market. The combined activities benefit both clients and candidates and offer development opportunities for employees.”

Randstad ranks No. 2 on Staffing Industry Analysts’ 2012 list of largest global staffing firms. USG ranks No. 8.

Randstad has operations in the U.S., but USG People does not.
