Poll: Doctors Average Almost Five Offers

December 20, 2011

Physicians applied for 9.3 position, on average, in the last two years, and they received 4.9 offers, according to a survey of physicians by The Medicus Firm, a physician search firm. However, results varied by years out of training.

Doctors who had been out of training for 16 or more years applied for 8 opportunities, on average, during the past two years and received 2.1 offers. However, physicians who were no more than 15 years out of training reported applying for 8.3 positions on average and receiving an average of 7.9 offers.

The survey also looked at response times when doctors apply for positions. Just 12 percent of physicians taking the survey said they received a response within 24 hours when applying directly to an employer. But for those applying to a job via a third-party recruiting firm, 27 percent reported a response time of less than 24 hours.

The survey included responses from 1,072 physicians.
