Physician executive compensation up 7.5%

Overall physician executive compensation rose 7.5% to $258,000 between 2005 and 2007, according to the 2007 Physician Compensation Survey released by the American College of Physician Executives and Cejka Search.

Among organizations with more than 100 survey respondents, doctors working in health system corporate offices reported the highest median compensation at $325,000. Physicians working for government organizations had the lowest compensation in 2007 at $180,000.

Anesthesiologists had the highest pay, $350,000, among specialities with at least 70 survey responses. Family medical physician executives had the lowest total compensation at a median $226,000.

The survey measured 2,116 responses from members of the American College of Physician Executives.
