People: RiseSmart, OpalStaff and Talos, Heidrick. Korn Ferry, Odgers

RiseSmart, an outplacement firm acquired last month by Randstad Holding nv for $100 million, appointed Jared Smith as senior VP of sales. Smith most recently was senior VP at consulting and outsourcing provider Morneau Shepell. Prior to Morneau Shepell, he was VP at ACS, an outsourcing and investment provider acquired by Xerox in 2010.

OpalStaff and Talos Solutions hired Shawn O’Meara as controller to oversee the accounting and financial affairs of both companies. O’Meara most recently was controller at EIS Group Inc., Distribution by Air. Before that, he was the assistant controller at Aerotek Inc. Maryland-based OpalStaff is an IT and technical staffing company.

Executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles International Inc. (NASD: HSII) announced Graham Beatty returned to the firm as head of the Americas real estate sector within the financial services practice. He will be based in the New York office. Beatty was a senior associate with Heidrick & Struggles until 2006; he most recently was a consultant within the financial services sector at another global executive search firm.

Executive search firm Korn Ferry International Inc. (NYSE: KFY) announced Darren Plested joined as senior client partner in the industrial practice, focusing on logistics and transport services. He will be based in Korn Ferry’s Hong Kong office. Plested was previously with DHL for 13 years, most recently as VP of customer solutions and innovation, managing business development for multinational clients in the engineering and manufacturing sector. And Kathy Vrabeck joined Korn Ferry as senior client partner in the consumer markets, while also working closely with technology clients. She will be based in Korn Ferry’s Los Angeles office. Vrabeck joins Korn Ferry from a global executive search firm, where she targeted the global and domestic consumer digital, media and entertainment, and technology sectors.

Executive search firm Odgers Berndtson announced Sally Drexler joined its Los Angeles office as partner, targeting the consumer and media industry. Drexler previously was president of Norman Broadbent USA, where she established the US subsidiary. And Belinda Humphrey joined Odgers Berndtson’s Atlanta office as a principal in the life sciences and healthcare practice. Humphrey most recently was a director in the life sciences and healthcare practice at CTPartners Executive Search Inc.
